Defining daily life

There are dozens of metaphors one can use about living in another country and trying to figure out how people go through life living like this and what are the acceptable rules of the game and what are not. And then the other day as I was blog surfing I stumbled upon Ward Six and her take on a fall day:

It makes me think of standing on a bridge in the fall and watching leaves float by — they turn and bump into each other and sink in ways that seem random but that you know, because they are following the rules of physics, are actually predictable. But you don’t know what the rules are, so you have to just observe it and be surprised.

This is exactly what my life is like.
